N2WS Backup and Recovery 3.0 is now available.
N2WS announced that Version 3.0 will offer enhanced data lifecycle management capabilities, faster recoveries, cost optimization tools, and a new user interface.
This is N2WS’s first major product release since Veeam Software sold it to its founders last year. The sale was due to concerns by the U.S. government that the subsidiary was being controlled by a company partly owned by two Russian executives. Blocks & Files reported last January. N2WS was owned by the data protection software vendor for approximately two years. Backup for AWS has been launched since then.
N2WS, which is built in the cloud, helps businesses manage storage and infrastructure. It also allows them to recover critical resources and archive data for compliance. Version 3.0 includes an enhancement to the Data Lifecycle Management component, which allows for greater control over AWS data. It now includes automated policies that move backups to the appropriate storage tier on Amazon Simple Storage Service, (Amazon S3). This includes Amazon Glacier Deep Archive and Amazon Glacier Deep Archive.
N2WS Recovery Scenarios is a new feature that returns entire workloads to production in seconds. This eliminates the need for tedious manual tasks and saves time. The company states that customers can use this feature for creating policies that will restore an entire application or service in a single click. The company stated that N2WS Recovery Scenarios will restore every component in a predefined order, including compute resources and data resources. They also support Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC), and other networking settings.
AWS Cost Explorer, another new feature, allows N2WS users calculate EBS snapshot prices per policy. This makes it easier for them to get a clear picture about their backup storage spend in AWS. Customers can quickly see how storage costs change over time, and optimize backup storage (using N2WS data lifecycle management) to align with their budget goals.
This release also includes an enhancement to its Resource Control cost optimization feature. This allows users to see how much money they are saving by turning off non-critical instances that are not being used. The company claims that users can instantly add or remove resources and make infrastructure savings in near real time.
This release also features a N2WS interface that “prioritizes user-friendliness to deliver a modern, streamlined interface.” The new dashboard simplifies backup monitoring and shows backup status as well as real-time storage costs. Customers can access detailed reporting and create policies from the “redesigned” navigation tab.
Chris Grusz, director for worldwide business development at the AWS Marketplace, stated that as enterprises shift more business-critical workloads onto AWS, customers are always looking for new tools to help build resilient and well-managed environments. “We are delighted to see N2WS’s commitment to helping customers achieve their compliance and efficiency goals through the availability of N2WS backup and recovery 3.0 in AWS Marketplace.”
